28-year-old Irma Lopez Aurelio was denied by the doctors for immediate help from Oaxaca Medical clinic. The video below will show you how she actually gave birth at the lawn outside as she waits to be given medical attention the next morning.
Aurelio and her husband walked for so long before they were able to come to the clinic only to be denied by the nurse in duty. The said incident brought discussions about the country's health care and awakened debates regarding ethnic discrimination as they were indigenous people from Sierra Mazateca region in Mexico. To seek medical attention, the two had to walk miles, starting dawn, for the nearest clinic.
According to her, the nurse doesn't believe she'll be delivering her baby that day as the staff thinks she's just eight months old. Well, mother knows best - and she definitely knows it's her time to welcome her child that day!
According to Oaxaca Medical Clinic, they really aren't prepared to accommodate a pregnant woman that day even if Aurelio's experiencing severe pains already. An hour and a half after being thrown outside the clinic, she had her labor - she knelt down and felt her water broke. Eloy Lopez, who was around the vicinity, was able to capture the controversial photo - citing he heard screaming from outside the Oaxaca clinic.
Nurses and doctors of the clinic only gave her proper medical care when she already gave birth to her child.
