Jordyn Howe, 15 then, once brought gun to school. He allegedly shot a 13-year-old girl named Lourdes Guzman-De Jesus accidentally thereafter.
The incident occurred after Howe brought the gun of his stepfather inside a school bus and showed it off to his friends. He attempted to fire the gun but it failed. Thinking the gun was not loaded, he then pointed it towards Lourdes and pulled the trigger. After doing so, the gun suddenly fired and killed Lourdes immediately thereafter.
Lourdes' mother, Ady, at first, plead for a sever penalty against Jordyn during the first days of the trial. However, as the trial progressed over time, she met with Jordyn and changed her mind to everybody's surprise. Believing that her daughter has finally attained justice that they have been seeking, Ady forgave Jordyn and hugged him in court. This, likewise, shocked the people. Ady thought that Jordyn deserved forgiveness as well as a second chance in life.
A plea deal was arranged between the parties thereafter and the same allowed Jordyn to avoid prison time. Thus, Jordyn is to spend a minimal prison time by attending a juvenile rehabilitation academy and would later on be legally obligated to be engaged as a speaker at different schools regarding the dangers of guns--with Ady accompanying him all throughout.
Asked for any comment, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Ellen Sue Vender quipped that in 20 yearys that she has been a court judge, she had never imagined a mother embracing her child's killer.
It was truly a touching moment of genuine forgiveness.
